FAIRPORT, Iowa – Friends of Fairport Fish Hatchery will hold their 2nd Annual Earth Day event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 20, at the facility, located at 3390 Highway 22.
The annual Earth Day hatchery event will feature several guest speakers, the unveiling of the 12 educational panels for the pavilion, a Food Truck Emporium, and much more. The public is invited to join the celebration.
After opening remarks, the Earth Day speaker lineup includes:
- 10:35 -10:50 a.m., Sandy Stevens, Fair Point Fish Hatchery Projects/Future Goals.
- 10:50 -11:05 a.m., Andy Fowler, fisheries biologist with Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
- 11:05 -11:15 a.m., Heather Gibb of Iowa State Historic Preservation Office/National Register of Historic Places.
- 11:15 -11:30 a.m., Muscatine School District.
- 11:30 -11:45 a.m., Jeremiah Haas, Exelon Mussels/Fish and Water Conservation.
- 11:45 -11:55 a.m., Unveiling of new educational panels.
Participating Earth Day organizations include: Friends of Fairport Fish Hatchery, Iowa DNR, National Pearl Button Museum, Muscatine County Energy District, USFWS-Lake Odessa, Muscatine Pollinator Project, Muscatine County Historic Preservation Commission and University of Iowa.
The fish hatchery event will happen rain or shine. Earth Day activities will be held indoors in the LACMERS Building in case of bad weather.
