‘Empowerment Through Awareness’ mental health event set

Learn about holistic approaches, brain and body health, suicide awareness and more at Empowerment Through Awareness. The all-day event dedicated to promoting mental health and well-being is planned for Friday, March 14, at Black Hawk College in Moline. 

The conference will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $40 and includes a light breakfast, lunch and a professional certificate of attendance. Professional and Continuing Education credits are available. 

Presentations include keynote speaker Jamie Shoemaker, a Geneseo Police detective, who will present Making an IMPACT on Your Community – Mental health and substance use within the community and breaking the stigma surrounding mental illness. 

Additional topics and speakers include:

  • Interoception: Tuning Into You to Manage Stress & Anxiety – Stephanie Phares, HSc, MOTR/L. 
  • Understanding Mental Health and Wellbeing, Utilizing Bodily Systems and Relational Framework – Breann Hirst, LISW, LCSW.
  • The Transformative Power of Sound Healing – Jessica Ramos, MsED, QMHP and Autumn Gonzalez, LCPC, MHC, CAADC.
  • Bridging the Gap: Supporting Veteran and Military Students’ Mental Health – Thomas Reagan, M.S., Black Hawk College and Joe Landen, U.S. Air Force (retired).
  • Creating a Community of Change – Kevin Atwood, Foster’s Voice.
