As temperatures start to dip, Humility Homes and Services, Inc. announced it will continue to offer space in its 88-bed emergency shelter throughout the cold winter season.
Six years ago, Humility Homes & Services, a nonprofit organization committed to providing shelter, housing, and essential services for individuals experiencing homelessness, heard a community call for a winter shelter.
In response, the organization said in a news release, it made a five-year commitment to run an expanded Winter Emergency Shelter. Through it, the agency added room for an additional 100 individuals from Dec. 1 to April 15 each year. Humility Homes said it was the natural partner to run that expanded Winter Emergency Shelter because it currently operates the only low-barrier, all-gender shelter for those 18 years old-plus in the Quad Cities.
The shelter was heavily used throughout the course of that five-year agreement. In fact, just the last year alone Humility Homes recorded 27,539 nights of emergency winter shelter stays.
Though that previous agreement has expired, Humility Homes said on Tuesday, Oct. 15, it will continue to provide critical support to those who need it most in the winter months through its year-round 88-bed emergency shelter as shelter capacity allows.
If you know someone in need of assistance, the organization said, have them call HHSI at (563) 322-8065. If it’s after hours and the individual has no transportation to travel to the shelter, local police will be able to help transport the individual in need.
