Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC) is reaching out to the community for input as it begins the search for a new college chancellor.

The college is encouraging students, faculty, staff, and local residents to participate in the process and is offering multiple opportunities for them to share their thoughts on what the next leader should bring to the table.

Liang Chee Wee was appointed the interim chancellor of EICC last year. His contract in that position expires June 30, 2025.

EICC will be hosting a series of forums at its main Clinton, Muscatine and Scott campuses, as well as a virtual session, where participants can express their opinions on the key qualities and leadership skills they feel are necessary for the role. The feedback collected will help inform the profile of the ideal candidate that the search committee and EICC Board of Trustees will use during the hiring process.

The forums are scheduled for:

  • Clinton Community College: 9:30-11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 30, in Room 139.
  • Scott Community College: 2:30-4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, Belmont Room 2300, Student Life Center, Bettendorf.
  • Muscatine Community College: 2-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, Student Center.
  • Virtual session: 10:30 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, Oct. 1.

In addition to the forums, EICC has launched an online survey to capture more detailed input from the community. The survey will remain open until Tuesday, Oct. 1, and is designed to gather insights on the characteristics most important to consider in the next chancellor.

EICC is also accepting nominations for individuals to serve on the Chancellor Search Committee. Community members can nominate colleagues or local residents who they believe would contribute valuable perspectives to the selection process. Nominations are open through Monday, Sept. 30.

Mr. Wee was named interim leader after the resignation of Sonya J. Williams from the permanent chancellor post. Ms. Williams started her role as chancellor on Aug. 8, 2022, and resigned on Aug. 1, 2023, for “personal reasons,” according to EICC officials.

“We want to make sure the next chancellor is someone who truly represents the values and aspirations of our entire EICC community. The more voices we hear, the better we can identify the right leader for our future,” said Michelle Garvin, chair of the Chancellor Search Committee.

EICC said in a news release that its decision to engage the community is a reflection of its longstanding commitment to collaboration and inclusivity as it looks toward the next chapter of its leadership. For more information, visit //eicc.edu/chancellorsearch.
