Eastern Iowa Community Colleges is expected to have a new interim chancellor soon.

The EICC Board of Trustees has scheduled a special meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, at the Scott Community College Urban Campus in downtown Davenport.

The meeting will be held in room 116/117. A Zoom option for viewing the meeting is available hereAt the Thursday meeting, the board of trustees is expected to name a new interim chancellor for EICC, according to the meeting agenda.

The search for a new chancellor has been in the works since Sonya J. Williams resigned her job as chancellor last month.

The resignation was made official during a Tuesday, Aug. 1 special meeting of the EICC Board of Trustees. The panel unanimously accepted her resignation in a meeting at the Scott Community College Urban Campus in downtown Davenport that lasted about five minutes.

During that session, the board named Naomi DeWinter, Muscatine Community College president and vice chancellor for student development, as temporary acting chancellor of EICC.

Ms. Williams, who was EICC chancellor for about a year, resigned because of “personal reasons,” according to information from EICC.

Ms. Williams began the job at EICC on Aug. 8, 2022, with the philosophy “you have to think about other people,” she told the QCBJ last year. She was appointed EICC’s eighth chancellor in June of 2022 after an extensive national search.
