The East Moline BMX Speedway will host a weekend of high-energy racing as it welcomes the World Series of Concrete and Gold Cup Qualifying Events from Thursday, Jan. 1, through Sunday, Jan. 4, at the QCCA Expo Center in Rock Island.
The event is free and open to spectators.
More than 300 riders from across the Midwest, representing approximately six states, are expected to compete in this regional world series USA BMX-sanctioned event. Generations of racers will take part — from toddlers just starting out to senior competitors with decades of experience.
Here is the schedule of events:
- Race for Life Double: On Jan. 1. Registration is 6-7 p.m.
- Warnicke Double: On Friday, Jan. 2. Registration is 6-7 p.m.
- State Race: On Saturday, Jan. 3. Registration is 2:30-4 p.m.
- Gold Cup Qualifier: On Sunday, Jan. 4. Registration is 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The Quad Cities is the only place to host cement flat-track BMX racing, a unique feature that draws riders from across the region, organizers said. Additionally, BMX racing has gained international attention, having been featured in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
