Drive-in movie theater set to open for season

Get out the popcorn. It’s almost time for outdoor drive-in movie theater fun.

The Voy 61 Drive In Theatre, south of Maquoketa, Iowa, will be opening for its 74th season on Friday, March 29. On Friday and Saturday, the Voy 61 will be showing the movie “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” followed by “Ghostbusters: Afterlife.”

Admission is $9 for adults, $4 for children age 4 to 12, and free admission for children age 3 and younger.

The Voy 61 Drive In Theatre is one of only four drive-ins still operating across the state of Iowa. It is noted for a grass field so patrons can bring along a radio and lawn chair and relax while watching the movie. 

Other features at Voy 61 include a state-of-the-art digital projection system as well as free train rides, a swing set, sand box, basketball court, wiffleball diamond, tether ball, and volleyball for the guests.

Movies can be heard in moviegoers’ vehicles by tuning radios to 88.5 FM.
