Dress for Success selects new executive director

Dress for Success Quad Cities soon will have a new leader.

Mauricio Diaz has been hired as executive director of the organization and will begin the job on May 16.

“As a DACA recipient, Latinx, and ally of women in Iowa, I am excited to build strong and lasting relationships in the Quad Cities,” the incoming executive director said in a news release. “I am thrilled to lead an organization that helps all women and continues to empower women to achieve economic independence that is Dress for Success Quad Cities.”

The incoming executive director’s most recent work experience was with the Iowa Democratic Party, where he has been working since 2018. He has strong experience recruiting and training staff and volunteers, speaking at events, and developing programs in support of organizational goals, according to a news release from Dress for Success QC. His Facebook page describes his work as a field organizer with the political party.

He replaces Tyla Sherwin-Cole, who resigned to take a new position in March as executive director of the Doris & Victor Day Foundation in Rock Island.

During her short tenure at Dress for Success, Ms. Sherwin-Cole led a successful $350,000 capital campaign that allowed the nonprofit to pay off the mortgage early on its new building, located at 423 E. 32nd St., Davenport. She also expanded the HireHer program to include American Job Center cohorts; piloted the Fill-A-Bag Friday sales program and more.

Dress for Success Quad Cities is a nonprofit serving women in the greater Quad Cities area by providing job search and career development services as well as professional attire for interviews.

The agency can be reached at (563) 322-1010.
