The Double Up Food Bucks program in Iowa has expanded to include all Fareway grocery store locations in the state.
The Iowa Healthiest State Initiative program allows Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) users to match their produce purchases dollar-for-dollar.
With the addition of Fareway’s 76 Iowa stores, Double Up Food Bucks are now available at 169 locations across the state. The addition of the Johnston, Iowa-based Fareway retail grocery locations significantly increases access to the program. The aim is to help SNAP recipients afford more fresh fruits and vegetables.
According to Jami Haberl, executive director of the Iowa Healthiest State Initiative, this is one of the largest expansions in the program’s history. SNAP users automatically qualify for Double Up Food Bucks. It provides a dollar-for-dollar match up to $15 per day on locally grown produce purchased at participating locations. For example, a customer spending $15 in SNAP benefits on produce now will receive an additional $15 in Double Up Food Bucks.
The Double Up Food Bucks program is sponsored by Wellpoint, Farmers Mutual Hail, Corteva, and Bank of America, and receives support from the USDA National Institute of Food. For more information and a list of participating locations, visit www.DoubleUpIowa.org.
