
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) and persons with disabilities are the largest untapped talent pool in Iowa. IowaWORKS and the Employers Council of Iowa are hosting a weekly series of webinars.
They are designed to help employers learn more ways to diversify their workforce through hiring these job ready candidates.
The seminar schedule includes:
- Assistive Technology – Wednesday, Oct. 9, 11 a.m to noon. This session will cover an introduction to Assistive Technology, available resources, and the implementation of assistive technology.
- Autism Speaks – Wednesday, Oct. 16, 11 a.m. to noon. This session will provide resources and best practices for establishing inclusive workplaces for individuals on the Autism Spectrum.
- Windmills “New Perceptions in Disability” – Wednesday, Oct. 23, 11 a.m. to noon. This session will examine stereotypes and reveal participants’ emotional reactions to specific disabilities.
- Accessibility Job Posting – Wednesday, Oct. 30, 11 a.m. to noon. The session will focus on making accessible job postings, writing disability-friendly job descriptions and developing accessible marketing materials.
