A rebranded Dick’s Sporting Goods store will reopen this summer in Davenport with a new name.

The sporting goods store location at 5250 Elmore Ave., near the Walmart store, is currently closed and undergoing renovation work. (Dick’s has a temporary location at NorthPark Mall, 320 W. Kimberly Road, Davenport)

Dick’s is scheduled to reopen on Saturday, July 15, as Dick’s House of Sport, Ryan Calvert, marketing manager for Dick’s, told the QCBJ on Monday, May 15.

(The closed Dick’s Sporting Goods store has a large black banner across its front that reads: “House of Sports opening this summer.”)

Mr. Calvert added that he could not offer details on the updated store.

But according to information from the company, once reopened, the new and updated store is expected to offer an expanded inventory of sporting gear and provide interactive space for guests to practice their athletic skills and use equipment in-store before they buy.

The House of Sports will feature:

  • In-store experiences include a climbing wall, multiple golf bays with TrackMan simulators and multi-sport cages that can be used for baseball, softball, lacrosse and soccer.
  • Deep integration with the local community through partnerships and events.
  • The latest gear for team sports, a vast selection of footwear, best-in-class athletic apparel brands, and top-of-the-line equipment and apparel for outdoor activities and golf.

Dick’s website describes its new House of Sports brand this way: “It’s more than a store. It’s an experience. From baseball to yoga and wrestling to lacrosse, no matter how you stay active, we want to help you reach the top of your game. Not only do we have the top gear you need to perform your best, but we have also created an interactive space where you can find inspiration and practice your skills. We create an inclusive environment where passionate, skilled, and diverse teammates thrive.”

Currently, Dick’s operates three House of Sport locations in Rochester, New York; Knoxville, Tennessee; and in Minnetonka, Minnesota. There are plans for perhaps 100 more House of Sports locations in the coming years, according to retaildive.com.

The Davenport Dick’s store, which opened at its latest location in 2019, included a Dick’s, Field & Stream, and Golf Galaxy stores all under one roof, which at the time was a new store concept for the company. After the remodel, the entire footprint will be known as Dick’s House of Sport.

The company plans to open nine House of Sport locations this year by remodeling eight existing Dick’s and Field & Stream combo stores and relocating an additional store. Ten of the stores are in the pipeline for 2024. Dick’s plans to open 20 additional House of Sport locations over the next two years, the retail business website added.

Dick’s Sporting Goods plans to open as many as 75 to 100 new House of Sport stores over the next five years, Lauren Hobart, CEO of the Pittsburgh-based retailer, said in a news release.

“House of Sport will be a significant part of our future growth story,” said Ms. Hobart in the release. “Over the next two years, we plan to open around 20 additional locations, including downtown Boston and our two hometowns of Pittsburgh and Binghamton, N.Y.”
