Davenport partners plan a Throwback Fest at Credit Island

Credit Island Throwback Fest Common Chord

Common Chord, in partnership with the City of Davenport and the Riverfront Improvement Commission, is inviting the public for a free nostalgic journey  to the late 1970s and early 1980s when the “Mississippi River Jams” and “Isle of Rock” festivals filled Credit Island.

The Davenport island and park will be filled with the sounds of rock and roll at the Credit Island Throwback Fest 2024 on Saturday, Aug. 31. The Credit Island Throwback Fest is the final concert of The Big9 riverfront series.

Common Chord and its partners have hosted concerts along Davenport’s nine miles of riverfront at a variety of locations. They include Veteran’s Memorial Park, Lindsay Park, The Last Picture House, and more.

The concert is free and will be family-friendly with food trucks on-site. Concert-goers can bring their own drinks and coolers, but no glass containers. They also are encouraged to bring a blanket or a chair.

Tents, pop-ups and umbrellas, and other tall items also are allowed. But they must be placed further from the stage. Parking will be available on the island. Please follow traffic directions upon arrival.

Well-behaved pets also are welcome and dogs must be leashed. Events will be held on the northeast end of Credit Island, near the boat ramp and lodge.

The event’s schedule includes:

  • 4-7 p.m.: Community Carnival – Food trucks, kids’ activities, games, a magician, and more.
  • 5 p.m.:  Great River Ducky Derby – Cheer on hundreds of rubber ducks as they race down the Mississippi River at Common Chord’s Great River Ducky Derby fundraiser for music education.
  • 6-10 p.m.: Throwback Fest Concert – Featuring an Allman Brothers tribute set by the Beaker Brothers Band, Einstein’s Sister, and QC Rock Academy bands.

The Great River Ducky Derby is a community fundraiser supporting music education programs throughout the Quad Cities. Community members can “adopt” their ducks with a donation. The first three numbered ducks to cross the finish line will win prizes. Duck adoptions and more information are available at www.commonchordqc.org

“Common Chord is thrilled to join forces with the City of Davenport in celebrating our community’s rich musical heritage,” Tyson Danner, Common Chord executive director, said in a news release.  “Live music helps bring our riverfront to life.”

Stephanie Bley is Riverfront Community Engagement coordinator for the City of Davenport. She said “It has been so exciting to see the public turn out for this concert series in Davenport’s beautiful riverfront spaces. We can’t wait to end the summer with the Throwback Fest.”
