
Basia Gerlach has been hired as chief financial officer (CFO) for the City of Davenport.
Ms. Gerlach currently serves as controller and interim chief budget officer for the city. She has worked for the City of Davenport since 2010.
“I look forward to working closely with our mayor, city council, and leadership team to ensure our financial strategies align with the needs and priorities of our residents,” Ms. Gerlach said in a news release announcing her appointment. “As CFO, my priority will be to ensure financial transparency and the long-term sustainability of our municipality.”
Ms. Gerlach is a certified public financial officer with a bachelor’s degree in business and economics from Benedictine University. As the city’s CFO, she will lead its Finance Department by managing day-to-day financial operations, budget planning, and providing oversight of revenue and purchasing.
“Under Basia’s continued leadership, the City of Davenport will keep its commitment to managing public resources responsibly and effectively,” City Administrator Doug Maxeiner said in the release. “Her expertise will be instrumental in meeting the challenges ahead.”
The City of Davenport is consistently recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association (CFOA), including the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. These honors demonstrate the diligence of the finance team in meeting guidelines for transparency, documentation, and accessibility of financial information to the general public.
Mallory Merritt, who served as interim city administrator and chief financial officer, announced her resignation in July 2024. She left in August to take a job in the private sector.
