SILVIS – Creative Pastry & Coffee is getting ready for fall. In addition to its regular menu, it also will offer seasonal drinks such as pumpkin spice lattes, maple cinnamon lattes and toasted marshmallow with Irish cream foam.
Those drinks — and many other items on the menu — have been a big hit with customers.
“It’s been going good. I’ve heard lots of good comments from customers,” said Fernanda Verduzco, who, along with her husband, Jorge Hurtado, own the restaurant at 917 First Ave., downtown Silvis near the U.S. Post Office.
More than 30 customers, family members and members of the business community gathered at Creative Pastry & Coffee on Friday, Sept. 22, for an official welcoming and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the restaurant that actually has been in business for about four months.
“They really care about the flavor. … I’ve heard nothing but positive things from the community,” said Janessa Caldron, executive director of the Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
During the ceremony, Ms. Caldron pointed out that the business is much more than a coffee and drink shop; it also offers a full menu of food and drinks. Some menu items include salmon, burgers, pizza, omelet and waffles sandwiches. There also are many desserts, such as cakes and cupcakes. Ms. Verduzco said the cheesecakes are a foodie favorite with many of her customers.
The customers were the center of attention for the husband-wife team on Friday. The two thanked customers and the business community for helping make their dream of owning a business a reality.
“This is a dream for us. …This is my passion. I’ve had this passion since I was a kid,” said Mr. Hurtado.
Several customers also spoke during the event, saying they were happy for that passion because it has brought some great meals to the Silvis community.
“Their heart is in it. You can taste it,” said Ms. Caldron.
