Construction Career Academy open house is Thursday

CLINTON, Iowa – An open house for a local building trades program is set for 4-7 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at the site of a student built home here at 600 River King Road.

The event has free admission and is open to the public. Staff will be available to answer questions about the educational initiative and the home itself.

This special event will showcase the achievements of high school students enrolled in Eastern Iowa Community Colleges’ (EICC) Construction Career Academy through the Clinton Community School District. Throughout the academic year, these students have gained hands-on experience in basic architecture, construction, and engineering, culminating in the construction of a brand-new single-family home.

The Clinton house is nearly complete, with only minor yard work remaining, and stands as a testament to the students’ dedication and skill, EICC said.

The Construction Career Academy provides high school students the opportunity to earn up to 16 college credits and a Construction Technology Certificate. The curriculum includes courses such as Building Construction Techniques I and II, Construction Safety, and Construction Blueprint Reading. Students also participate in work-based learning experiences and earn their OSHA 10-hour General Construction Certification.

Following the open house, the student-built house will be available for purchase through a sealed bid process. The Clinton Community School District is now accepting sealed bids on the recently completed single-family home. It will take bids until noon Thursday, May 8.

The new three-bedroom, two-bath house is 1,674 square feet with an unfinished basement, and is being sold in its completed condition “as is” with no further construction to be completed. Go here for more information on the home and to make a bid.

All bids must include:

  • Proof of financing or available cash funds.
  • A $1,000 earnest money deposit (cash, certified check, or cashier’s check).
  • Completed bid form (available online).

To schedule an appointment for a private home viewing of the property, contact Instructor Brian Johnson at (563) 249-8990.
