Clint’s Pizza opens to ‘super happy’ customers

Pizza has returned to a westside Davenport neighborhood.

Clint’s Pizza House opened for business on Dec. 1 at 1601 W. Third St., Davenport, in the former Harris Pizza No. 3 location.

“People have been super happy we are here,” said Tyler Durbin, manager of the Clint’s Pizza Davenport location. “It’s been great, very positive, so far.”

Mr. Durbin said the new pizza business had to make very few changes to get the site ready to make pizzas again. “It was almost ready to go … but opening a new business is a process,” he said.   Part of that process is pulling together its staff. In fact, a few days after opening, Mr. Durbin said he still was unable to say how many employees will be working at the new pizzeria.

This marks the second Clint’s Pizza business in the Quad Cities region. Clint’s Draft House Pizza & Grill, is located at 1630 Seventh St., Moline.

Clint’s Pizza offers a wide variety of pizzas on its menu. Mr. Durbin said one of the early favorites is the Daytona 21 pizza which features sausage, chopped chicken, chopped jalapeno and Daytona sauce. “That one has just really blown up,” he added.

Some of the other big sellers include: taco, garden, chicken bacon ranch, reuben, mighty meat and spinach artichoke pizzas.

Brandon Klugger, owner of Clint’s Pizza, said the business plans to offer more than pizza and it will begin offering Henny Penny Chicken in the near future.

Mr. Durbin says he knows Clint’s is opening shop in a crowded pizza market, but he believes the new business will draw customers through its quality food and service.

“We really care about our food. We always want people to come back for more,” Mr. Durbin added.

The story of Clint’s Pizza began with Clint Doran, who has been in the pizza business for almost 50 years. Mr. Doran worked for Harris Pizza for 25 years before opening his own shop in 1993 in what is now Highland Park Bowl in Moline. The business eventually moved to its current location in the Old Town Belgium neighborhood of Seventh Street, according to the company’s website.

Mr. Doran’s son, Brandon Klugger, who also grew up spinning pizzas, has taken over operations of the business.

Clint’s Pizza House in Davenport is open 4-10 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday; and closed Monday-Tuesday. The phone number is (563) 324-9111. For more information, visit clintspizzahouseqc.com.
