Bishop Hill Colony supporters have received a $111,000 tourism promotion grant from the Henry County Board to add new events in 2023 including a Civil War Days festival in May and a summer park concert series.

The Bishop Hill Heritage Association (BHHA) recently announced the county’s approval of the funding from American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to enhance Bishop Hill’s tourism development in 2023.

The BHHA is a private non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the unique heritage of the Bishop Hill Colony and its legacy. According to its new release, in addition to the Civil War Days in May and the concert series, an ad campaign will also be created to promote historic Bishop Hill as a tourist destination. In a news release, the BHHA thanked Henry County and county board for “their most generous support.”

Other events and programs are also in the works, the organization said.
