City of Rock Island plans open house set Saturday

    The City of Rock Island will hold the 2nd Annual Open House from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 4 in front of its police and fire stations on 5th Avenue between 12th and 14th streets.

    Bring your family to meet Rock Island’s first responders; tour the fire department; and climb inside a fire engine, ambulance, police car, police UTV, one of the city’s new snowplows and a bucket truck.

    There will be demonstrations by K-9 Officer Blue. In addition, the Rock Island Fire Department will demonstrate its drone and explain how it helps firefighters. The city’s public works department also will be on hand. The family-friendly event also will have free face painting and refreshments.
