A Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurant will soon be built on a Davenport site that was once home to a miniature golf course.
Construction on the new restaurant at 1020 W. Kimberly Road is expected to begin soon and it is scheduled to be open by the end of the year, a Chipotle spokeswoman told the QCBJ on Tuesday, May 2.
The site is the former home of the Li’l Mississippi Golf course, and next to a KFC restaurant.
“We are currently scheduled to open a location in Davenport this winter. It will be located at 1020 Kimberly Road and feature the brand’s signature ‘Chipotlane,’ a drive-thru pickup lane that allows guests to conveniently pick up digital orders without leaving their cars,” Annie Gradinger, a communications official with Chipotle in Newport Beach, California, told the QCBJ in an email message.
Ms. Gradinger said she could not provide any other details on the project at this time.
The “Chipotlane” is the restaurant chain’s digital order drive-through and pick-up lane, which the chain has made a priority in the past couple of years as consumers’ digital ordering habits accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic. The company’s executives have noted that the models generate 15% to 20% higher sales than traditional stores, as well as quicker returns, according to the Nation’s Restaurant News.
The new restaurant is going up on the former Li’l Mississippi mini-golf course. As of Tuesday, the entire course and its facilities had been removed. Construction and earth-moving equipment was still on site Wednesday morning, May 3. Li’l Mississippi’s company website was still operational early this week, advertising the golf course’s rates and features.
Chipotle has more than 3,100 restaurants sites as of the end of 2022. The restaurant also has two other Quad Cities locations at 5270 Elmore Ave., Davenport, and 3941 41st Ave. Drive, Moline.
