Chalk Art Fest returns to Rock Island

The Quad City Arts’ 9th annual Chalk Art Fest will take place Saturday and Sunday, May 31 and June 1, at Schwiebert Riverfront Park in Rock Island. The free festival will feature live chalk art creation, family activities and over $2,000 in prizes.

Local and regional artists will transform the pavement into a temporary art gallery, competing for cash prizes. Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Visitors can watch the artwork come to life, vote for their favorite and participate in a community chalk piece.

More information is available at quadcityarts.com/chalk-art-fest.

The event will also include live music, food trucks, craft brews, face painting, a bounce house, the Kaleidoscope Bus and a kids’ chalk zone. On Saturday, May 31, Art for the Spirit will host a community art project, “Have a Heart for Kidneys,” and the Rock Island Public Library’s Library2Go will be on site from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Awards, including a People’s Choice award and youth category awards for ages 12-17, will be announced at 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The artwork is temporary.
