Centennial Bridge lights go dark for migrating birds

River Action will turn out the Centennial Bridge lights beginning Thursday night, Sept. 19, through the duration of the fall migration in order to protect birds migrating nocturnally through the Quad Cities region.

Area residents are urged to turn off any unnecessary lighting, as well, to help the feathered friends find their way and reduce collisions.

An estimated 382 million birds will migrate through the upper Midwest tonight.
