Quad Citians are lacing up their bowling shoes this weekend for the annual Junior Achievement Bowl-A-Thon going on today, Feb. 23, and Saturday, Feb. 24.

More than 130 teams of five bowlers each signed up to support Junior Achievement through the organization’s largest fundraiser, according to a news release from the Moline-based organization.

It is taking place in seven communities throughout Junior Achievement of the Heartland’s 24 counties in February and March, including locally at the TBK Bank Sports Complex Family Entertainment Center in Bettendorf, Bowlmor Lanes in Davenport, and Highland Park Bowl in Moline. Organizers estimated the event would raise more than $140,000 to support JA learning experiences in local schools.

Junior Achievement teaches students the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their future and make smart academic and fiscal choices, according to the release. JA helps prepare students for life after graduation with learning experiences that focus on financial literacy, work and career readiness and entrepreneurship through partnerships with area educators and the business community.

JA of the Heartland is the 25th largest JA Area in the country out of 105, reaching more than 50,000 kindergarten through high school students in its 24-county service area.
