Bix @ 6 canceled tonight due to poor air quality

Due to the unhealthy air quality in Davenport caused by smoke from the Canadian wildfires, organizers of the Quad-City Times Bix 7 have canceled the Iowa American Water Bix @ 6 training run scheduled for tonight, June 29.

“It is with regret that we announce this cancellation,” Race Director Michelle Juehring said in a news release. “However, our first commitment is always to the health and safety of our runners and volunteers.”

According to recommendations for the Quad Cities area – as outlined on Airnow.gov – the air quality (AQI) along the course moved into the “Unhealthy” range due to wind directions.

Race organizers are notifying all participants, volunteers and vendors, and venues of the tonight’s cancellation. Registered Biz 7 runners can join the two remaining Bix @ 6 training runs on Thursday, July 6 and 13.

The Genesis Sports Medicine Brady Street Sprint Trials will occur at 7 p.m. on those two nights.

Those registering at home today, can pick up their free Bix @ 6 T-shirt at next week’s Bix @ 6. Simply present your confirmation email to event organizers.

“This fire is a tragic event for our community in so many ways,” Ms. Juehring said. “We are confident the running community will agree that this was the right decision.”

The 49th Quad-City Times Bix 7 race begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 29. Online registration is open at www.Bix7.com.
