BHC Practical Nursing program ranked No. 2 in Illinois

The Black Hawk College Practical Nursing program has been named the No. 2 Practical Nursing Program in Illinois by PracticalNursing.org, a leading resource for practical nursing students and others, according to a news release from BHC.

PracticalNursing.org analyzed the 38 state-approved licensed  programs in Illinois, and ranked the Top 10. BHC received an overall score of 97.11 out of 100.

“We take pride in recognizing exceptional programs, and your institution has been acknowledged for its excellence in Illinois,” the announcement stated, according to the release.

The evaluation process includes various factors such as past and present first-time National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) pass rates, weighted by year. PracticalNursing.org says the methodology ensures that the evaluators assess how effectively a program supports students in their journey toward licensure and beyond, the release states.

Being ranked No. 2 in the state is a great honor, said Trudy Starr, chair of the BHC Nursing Department.

“Black Hawk College is very proud of the dedication and commitment to the students of our Practical Nursing faculty members Kathy Dusthimer, Jody Lindstrom and Angela Czubara,” she said in the release.

BHC’s program is designed to prepare students for direct patient care, performing skilled tasks under the direction of a doctor or registered nurse. Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) work in hospitals, nursing homes, physician offices, clinics and community agencies.
