Books, Blankets, and Bliss is the theme of the Bettendorf Public Library’s 2025 Winter Reading Program.
Beginning Monday, Jan. 6, and “wrapping up” on Saturday, Feb. 15, this year’s Winter Reading Program includes challenges, a chance to win gift cards, special programs, and a way to help those in need warm up during the cold winter months.
Early online registration opened Monday, Dec. 30, at www.bettendorflibrary.com/reading-program. In-person registration will begin Jan. 6.
Here’s a look at some of the reading challenges, designed for all ages (Win a book f or completing a challenge.)
Read-To-Me Challenge: Finish 30 Books – The Read-To-Me Program is for children who mostly listen to stories or read short stories.
Reader Challenge: Read 360 Minutes. The Reader Program is for children who are reading mostly independently.
Teen (Grades 6-12) Challenge: Read 1,000 Minutes. In addition to a book, those who complete this challenge will receive a raffle entry for an Amazon gift card.
Adult Challenge: Complete three of six activities. In addition to a book, those who complete this challenge will receive a raffle entry for an Amazon gift card. Activities include reading/listening to a book on Libby, watching content on Kanopy, donating a blanket to the Bettendorf Rotary Club’s Blanket Drive, reading a book, attending an event at the Library, and/or reading a newspaper or magazine online or in print.
In addition, the library will host special programs in January including:
Family Board Game Day – Saturday, Jan. 18, 1-3 p.m. Families can bring their favorite board games to share or the library will also provide games.
DIY Tie Blankets – Monday, Jan. 20, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is a drop-in activity on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is best for ages 11+, but all are welcome. Participants may keep the blanket they make or donate it to the Bettendorf Rotary Club’s Blanket Drive. The drive is being extended through the end of the Winter Reading Program.
