Dr. Marianna Beattie has a goal: Open a dental practice where patients can see some wonderful scenery.
“We hope our patients can look out the windows and see horses In the field next to us. …. There have been horses out here,” Dr. Beattie said Wednesday, July 26, of the green field next to the land that will soon be her new dental office – Bettendorf Family Dental at 6780 Friendship Path, which is near the TBK Sports Complex on the north side of Bettendorf.
Dr. Beattie and about 30 people from her family, her dental practice and the business community gathered for a ceremonial Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce groundbreaking ceremony.
If all goes according to plan, the almost empty plot of land at the corner of Competition Drive and Friendship Path (and across the street from the parking lot for baseball fields at the TBK Sports Complex) will be open for business and seeing patients by next April 1.
Eventually, the new dental business will employ about 20 people.
“We’re landing here because this is where the families are. … There are families all around us,” Dr. Beattie said of the numerous new homes in the sports complex area.
When complete, the new building will also house an office for a chiropractor who has a family practice. There are also plans for a second building to eventually go on the 1.6-acre lot with the entire project taking two to three years, Dr. Beattie added.
She called it a multi-million dollar project, but would not put a more specific number on the financial investment of the plans.
“There were other people looking at this (lot). It wasn’t right for them, but it’s right for us,” she said during Wednesday’s brief ceremony.
Also during that ceremony, Bettendorf Mayor Bob Gallagher thanked Dr. Beattie for opening a new business in the community. “Thank you for investing in Bettendorf,” he added.
That investment and real construction work are already in progress. Before the groundbreaking, work crews and heavy machinery were busy with site preparation work. Dr. Beattie joked that it appears construction had started before the groundbreaking.
Dr. Beattie also has a dental practice at Beattie Family Dental at 1544 W. Kimberly Road, Davenport. She will also continue to practice out of that office once the new Bettendorf Family Dental opens next year.
