Augustana College is inviting the public to a keynote panel discussion “Acts of Compassion: Turning Care into Change” as part of the Rock Island college’s annual celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The free event will be from noon to 1:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 19, at Centennial Hall, 3703 7th Ave. Community members unable to attend can view a livestream here.
The panel discussion is the highlight of Augustana’s annual MLK celebration, which runs Monday to Friday, Jan. 19-23. This year’s theme is “The Fierce Urgency of Now: Compassion in Action.”
The four panelists, whose own work reflects Dr. King’s call for empathy and meaningful action, include:
- Christie Adamson, co-founder and director of The Third Place QC.
- Bonnie Ballard, president of the Rock Island County NAACP Branch #3268.
- Alejandra Camacho, Augustana Class of 2019, director of empowerment programs for World Relief Quad Cities.
- Edwin Salazar, director of ThePlace2B.
Augustana Assistant Professor of Art Larissa Frimprong will moderate the discussion.
