Dozens of Quad Cities children are enjoying the holiday spirit this year thanks to the generosity of Ascentra Credit Union.

On an Angel Tree at the Boys & Girls Club of the Mississippi Valley, the club had a total of 56 children requesting items and clothing for the holidays but organizers worried they could not fill all the requests. When club representatives reached out to Ascentra for help buying some of the items, the Bettendorf-based credit union instead chose to sponsor the entire tree and fulfill all the requests made by the children.

Credit union employees handed out the gifts Wednesday afternoon during the club’s holiday party in Moline.

“Ascentra’s leadership keeps close tabs on the needs of the communities that we serve,” Ascentra President and CEO Linda Andry said in a news release. “We recognize the added financial pressure that our economy is putting on people this holiday season.

“Ascentra wanted to Be the Light for our community and help serve these families through the Angel Tree Project,” she said, invoking the Be the Light phrase, which continues through Ascentra’s team. “It’s an honor to partner with the Boys & Girls Club and stand beside their mission to support youth and teens in our community.”

Torri Smith, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of the Mississippi Valley, lauded Ascentra for the ongoing partnership. “Thank you for your generosity and your exemplary service to others in the community,” Ms. Smith said in the release. “Your kindness is making a phenomenal impact in the lives of the youth and teens at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Mississippi Valley.”
