American Power Systems to award a $5,000 STEM scholarship

Thomas K. Evans Memorial Scholarship honor's APS founder

Davenport-based manufacturer American Power Systems, Inc. (APS) is now accepting applications for the Thomas K. Evans Memorial Scholarship, a $5,000 award for new college entrants pursuing education in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

The merit- and need-based, one-time gift is fully funded by APS, which seeks to encourage bright, creative young people to achieve and excel, and to help them change the world for the better, according to a news release from APS. It is named in honor of the late Thomas Keenan Evans, a local engineer and entrepreneur who founded APS in 2006.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be graduating this year from a school in Bettendorf, Davenport, Pleasant Valley, Eldridge, East Moline, Moline or Rock Island. Applicants also must plan to matriculate for the first time into an accredited college program in 2024 with a major or specific focus in a science, technology, engineering and/or math discipline.

The deadline for applications is noon on Monday, Feb. 26. The winner will be announced in May.
