
River Action’s annual Taming of the Slough Adventure Triathlon at 8 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 16, combines paddling, mountain biking and running for an athletic challenge.
This year’s event starts at Bass Street YMCA, located at the foot of Moline’s 17th Street.
The Taming of the Slough race takes place in the Sylvan Slough, on Sylvan Island, and on the Interstate 74 bridge. Timing chip handoff must take place at the Bass Street YMCA.
Taming of the Slough Adventure Triathlon events include: the paddle is 2.5 miles; mountain biking is 7.5 miles; and the run is two miles on riverfront bike trail and onto the I-74 bridge and back.

Some of the categories in the Adventure Triathlon include: men’s individual; women’s individual; men’s masters (50-plus age); women’s masters (50-plus); youth (under 18); and two-team, three-team and the corporate adventure challenge, a three-person relay.
