Motown Christmas rings in Nov. 17 at the Adler

"A Motown Christmas" will bring a holiday spectacular to the Adler Theatre on Nov. 17.

“A Motown Christmas” is set to bring a family-friendly, sing-along holiday spectacular to the Adler Theatre on Monday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. Tickets go on sale beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, July 11.

The show features a world-class vocal group composed of past and present members from three of Motown’s most iconic groups. they are The Temptations, The Miracles and The Contours. “A Motown Christmas” combines Motown’s greatest hits with beloved holiday classics. They will be performed with trademark dazzling choreography and unforgettable harmonies characteristic of the Motown style.

Tickets for the Adler Theatre can be purchased in person at the Box Office at 136 E. 3rd Street, Davenport, open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. They also are available at www.davenportlive.com and www.ticketmaster.com. Ticket prices begin at $52, plus applicable fees.

Motown Holiday Tour

The Davenport performance is part of the group’s annual Holiday Tour, which includes 25 shows across 10 states.

Over their career, The Temptations have achieved four Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles and 14 Billboard R&B No. 1 singles. They’ve earned three Grammy Awards. Similar to their “sister” group, The Supremes, The Temptations’ lineup has seen frequent changes over the years.

The Miracles have charted more than 50 Billboard hit singles between 1959 and 1978. They incude 26 Top Ten Billboard R&B Hits and four R&B No. 1s. Sixteen of their songs reached the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100, with seven reaching the Top Ten. Two of their songs, “The Tears of A Clown” (1970) and “Love Machine” (1975), hit No. 1, and “Shop Around” reached No. 1 on the Cash Box magazine Top 100 pop chart.

In the 1960s, The Contours had eight charted hits. Among them were Motown’s first million-seller and its fastest-rising hit, “Do You Love Me.” In 1988, following its feature in the movie “Dirty Dancing,” the song “Do You Love Me” surged back onto the charts, vastly outselling its original performance.
