IMEG acquisition of HP Engineering continues company expansion

IMEG has strengthened its presence in the southern U.S. with its acquisition of HP Engineering, a respected multidisciplinary firm headquartered in Rogers, Arkansas, the Quad Cities-based IMEG announced Tuesday, July 1.

According to an IMEG news release, HP Engineering provides Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) engineering as well as fire protection, structural, lighting, low-voltage, energy modeling, and commissioning services.

The acquisition expands IMEG’s footprint into Arkansas and Oklahoma, which the company said shows its commitment to strategic growth and client-focused solutions across the south. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquisition is just the latest in a string of expansions for IMEG, based in west Rock Island. In May, IMEG announced that Lynch Mykins, a nationally recognized structural engineering and special inspections firm, had joined the IMEG family. Headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, that addition strengthened IMEG’s technical capabilities and also expanded its footprint across North Carolina and the broader Southeast.

HP Engineering brings deep expertise across a wide range of markets, including commercial, healthcare, education, industrial, aviation, hospitality, government, residential, and federal (including Tribal) sectors.

Founded in 2007, HP Engineering is known for its strong client service and values-driven approach, which it said is grounded in problem-solving, purposeful design, sustainability, and innovation.

In addition to its Arkansas headquarters, HP Engineering has additional offices in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Dallas, Phoenix, and Kansas City. The acquisition adds 86 new team members to IMEG’s 3,000-person workforce.

“The integration of HP Engineering is a significant step forward in our strategic growth,” IMEG CEO Paul VanDuyne said in the release. “Their deep market experience, strong client relationships, and culture of design excellence are a natural fit for IMEG.”

He added: “Expanding into Arkansas and Oklahoma strengthens our national presence and enhances our ability to deliver responsive, high-quality service through strong local connections.”

As part of the transition, HP Engineering executives Bill Hodge and David Adams will serve as client executives with IMEG, continuing to lead their respective teams and operations. Brandon Pinkerton, HP Engineering’s CEO, will remain in a leadership role focused on client development and strategic growth.

“This marks an exciting new chapter in our journey,” Mr. Pinkerton said in the release.

“Partnering with IMEG allows us to continue serving our clients with the same dedication while gaining access to expanded resources, national expertise, and a broader service offering,” he added. “Together, we’ll deliver even greater value, innovation, and project outcomes.”

IMEG said HP Engineering will continue to operate from its existing locations under the transitional name HP Engineering, now IMEG.

The new offices add to IMEG’s 100 offices nationwide. IMEG’s combination of having the comprehensive expertise of a national leader with the personal connections of a local firm is one of the company’s strengths.

IMEG also is ranked among the top engineering firms in the U.S. (#3 on BD+C’s top Engineering Firms and #48 on ENR’s Top 500 Design Firms).

The firm most recently was recognized for its work on an Illinois infrastructure project by The American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois (ACEC Illinois). The project was the new Rockford Public Library, engineered by IMEG. The award recognized IMEG’s innovative design that overcame site challenges to create a welcoming community hub.

The National Recognition Award was presented Tuesday, May 20, to IMEG at the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) national Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA).
