CLINTON, Iowa –  First Central State Bank has announced a $50,000 donation to Eastern Iowa Community College (EICC) for the Bickelhaupt Arboretum renovation project in this community.

The bank’s donation will help fund the mural being created for the new events center, which will transform the former pool area into an illuminated gathering room.

First Central State Bank CEO and President Brigham Tubbs said this community project will enrich the lives of residents and visitors, while promoting sustainability and education.

“We believe that strong communities are built through collaboration and shared purpose,” Mr. Tubbs said. “Investing in projects like the arboretum reflects our long-standing commitment to supporting initiatives that bring people together, foster learning, and enhance quality of life.”

He added “We’re honored to play a role in helping create a space that will benefit generations to come.”

The new events center will feature a more than 2,000-square-foot area with floor-to-ceiling windows. It also will have a more than 2,000-square-foot outdoor deck, overlooking the arboretum, which was founded in 1970 by the Bickelhaupt family. Two learning center rooms and a library also are included in the renovations.

The arboretum was donated to EICC in 2014. Clinton Community College President Brian Kelly said this project showcases the strong community involvement by businesses, local leaders and residents.

“The outpouring of support from partners, such as First Central and others, shows just how much this community values shared spaces and meaningful connection,” Mr. Kelly said. “We’re grateful to have dedicated supporters with us as we bring this vision to life.”
