Ahrens named leader of Davenport Schools Foundation

The Davenport Schools Foundation has hired an experienced government and nonprofit leader as its new executive director.

Steve Ahrens was appointed to the leadership role, effective Thursday, May 1, according to the foundation’s news release Wednesday, May 14.

The foundation is an organization committed to enhancing educational outcomes, providing resources, and supporting students and educators. 

“We are thrilled to welcome Steve to the Davenport Schools Foundation,” Tim Chen, foundation board president, said in the release. “His expertise and passion for education and our community will help us continue to support students, teachers, and schools in meaningful ways.”

With an extensive background in public sector and nonprofit managerial leadership experience, Mr. Ahrens also serves as director of strategic initiatives at Common Chord in downtown Davenport. He previously served as executive officer for Davenport’s Riverfront Improvement Commission and as the director of St. Ambrose University’s Alumni and Parent Relations. He also served on the Davenport City Council as alderman at large.

Mr. Ahrens is a collaborative and innovative leader that brings more than 25 years of experience as an exceptional fundraising and community development leader. He is committed to fostering educational opportunities and strengthening community partnerships for the students of today and in the future, according to the release. 

He holds both an MBA and an undergraduate degree in public administration and political science from Davenport’s St. Ambrose.

“As a product of Davenport Schools, I am honored to join the Davenport Schools Foundation and look forward to working alongside educators, community leaders, and supporters to provide meaningful educational opportunities that empowers every student to succeed,” Mr. Ahrens said in the release. “Education is the cornerstone of a thriving community, and I am excited to help drive resources for students and schools.”
