
St. Ambrose University (SAU) will present its second-highest honor, the McMullen Award, to Paul (Class ’76) and Alva Sachs, and Don “Duke” Schneider (Class ’76), on Thursday, April 24.
The award presentation will be held during a Mass at 4:30 p.m. in Christ the King Chapel on the Davenport campus. The public is invited.
The award recognizes individuals who embody the university’s mission and have made significant contributions to the institution and community. Below are brief biographies of the honorees provided by SAU.
Paul and Alva Sachs
Paul Sachs, a 1976 accounting graduate, retired as a founding managing director of Protiviti, a global business consulting firm. He has served on SAU’s Board of Trustees since 2002 and has been instrumental in supporting capital campaigns.
Alva Sachs is an award-winning children’s author and founder of Three Wishes Publishing Company. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Illinois and a master’s degree in education from Northern Illinois University. Through her literacy foundation, she provides resources for children and educators.
The Sachs are longtime supporters of the Ambrose Annual Fund.
Don “Duke” Schneider
Don “Duke” Schneider is a 1976 graduate of the university’s Communication Department. He returned to campus a few years after graduating as operations manager of the college TV station. During his 43-year career, he played a key role in expanding the university’s digital media platforms. He also mentored hundreds of students.
The McMullen Award was established in 2006. It is named for the founder of the former St. Ambrose College, the Rev. John J. McMullen.
