New BHASED administrators to host Aug. 12-13 open houses

BHASED Black Hawk Special Education District administrators

The Black Hawk Area Special Education District has announced four new top administrators and leaders for BHASED including its new director Kathy Ruggeberg.

The district also is planning a pair of Open Houses and Unpack Your Backpack nights on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 12 and 13.

In announcing the school year startup, the organization said in a news release that its new administrative team brings a wealth of experience and shared dedication to enhancing educational experiences for our students. 

Joining Ms. Ruggeberg – the former superintendent of Teaching & Learning at Rock Island-Milan School District – on the BHASED administrative team are:

  • Judi Simon, principal of the Phoenix Program. 
  • Victoria Bohlman, interim principal of the Black Hawk Area Education Center. 
  • Stephanee Jordan, interim administrator for the Phoenix Program and Black Hawk Area Education Center Commitment to Positive Culture and Climate. 

The open houses and backpack nights are designed to demonstrate BHASED’s “steadfast commitment to fostering a positive culture and climate for the 2024-2025 school year. 

The events that will welcome students and families and offer a chance to meet staff are:

  • 4-6 p.m., Monday, Aug. 12, Open House for the Phoenix Program, 103 3rd Street Carbon Cliff, Illinois.
  • 4-6 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 13, Open House and Unpack Your Backpack events to meet administration and staff. 

Also on Tuesday, BHASED will bring staff together to kick off the 2024-2025 school year at the Camden Center in Milan, the district said. School begins at the Phoenix Program and Black Hawk Area Education Center on Wednesday, Aug. 14.
