The empty parking lot near the former Kraft/Oscar Mayer building site in Davenport is about to fill up with semi-trailers.
That parking area between Rockingham Road and West Third Street and Fillmore to Taylor streets will be used to store the trailers from the nearby Nestle Purina plant at 607 Schmidt Road.
Nestle Purina is rebuilding one of its parking lots west of Schmidt Road. This work will displace the vehicles usually parked in that area. The company has received permission from the City of Davenport to temporarily use the former Oscar Mayer parking lot to park the trailers, according to Marion Meginnis, the city’s Third Ward alderman.
The parking lot project is expected to last about four months.
Ms. Meginnis emailed messages earlier this week to those in the neighborhood to inform them about the parking lot situation.
“The lot is not normally zoned to accept this type of parking. Purina will begin moving trailers to the location beginning in the next few days,” Ms. Meginnis stated in her email.
The former Oscar Mayer plant that was located near Rockingham Road was demolished in 2020 after the company moved earlier to its new facility on the north edge of Davenport.
