UnityPoint Health – Trinity will host its first Heart to Heart Community Education Series of the year on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

The in-person event features medical experts who will help attendees live more heart-healthy lives, including Maryann Halpin with Cardiovascular Medicine, P.C. and Robert Young Center, according to a news release from UnityPoint. She will present the “Heart and Mind Connection” at 5:30 p.m. in the Jardine Auditorium at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island, 2701 17th St.

“Research has proven that (the) heart and mind both play an important role in how the other functions,” Ms. Halpin said in the release. “Studies show people with depression are at greater risk for heart attacks and strokes, while people who report feeling optimistic have a lower risk of heart disease and stroke.”

Admission to Heart to Heart is free thanks to Trinity Health Foundation donors, however, seats are limited and registration is required here

“Heart disease continues to top the Quad Cities’ list of health care concerns. The most recent Community Health Needs Assessment (showed that) the annual average number of deaths in the Quad Cities due to heart disease is 4.7% higher than the national average. That means heart disease kills nearly 25% of adults in our area,” Kathy Pulley, director of Cardiology Services at UnityPoint Health – Trinity, added.

“We believe one death is too many, and we’re committed to arming our community members with tools to help prevent and reverse the effects of heart disease.”
