The River Bend Food Bank recently received a $5,000 grant through a national opportunity made available to Mel Foster Insurance, Mel Foster announced in a news release.
Every year, Hastings Mutual Insurance Company Charitable Foundation invites its partners — such as Mel Foster Insurance — to nominate local nonprofit organizations for a grant.
Mel Foster Insurance nominated River Bend to help enable it to purchase food and help close the meal gap in Scott and Rock Island counties.
“Mel Foster Insurance wants to impact the communities we serve positively,” Marc Engels, president of Mel Foster Insurance, said in the release.
“Through combined efforts with partners like Hastings Mutual Insurance Company Charitable Foundation, we can utilize our national connections to make a difference for those in need right here in our community. We believe insurance plays a role every day in stabilizing families, businesses and communities in times of need. This grant helps our local food bank feed those in need today.”
The foundation grant program has awarded more than $1 million to help people and families grow and prosper, according to the release.
“We are beyond grateful to Mel Foster Insurance and Hastings Mutual Insurance Company for their efforts and generosity,” said Nancy Renkes, president and CEO of River Bend Food Bank, in the release.
“It is through community partnerships such as these that we can continue our mission of solving hunger in our area,” she added.
