One Davenport YMCA facility is almost ready to re-open in a new home. Another YMCA is under construction and is expected to open in a few months in a nearby community.

The North Family YMCA facility – formerly located at Davenport North High School at 624 W. 53rd St. – is days away from opening at its new location in a business building at 1010 E. Kimberly Road,  according to the YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley.

A community open house celebration is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 11. Also, Saturday will be the first day the North Family YMCA is open for public use.

The YMCA’s new home on Kimberly Road is situated in a multi-tenant commercial retail building. The building has about 90,000 square feet of space, and is also currently home to Harbor Freight Tools and the Yinz Binz retail store. It also was home to Midwest Grilling Supplies and The Stefanini Group, which do not appear to be operating there.

As of Tuesday afternoon, July 7, workers were inside the Y’s building, working on projects and a remodeling work order was posted on the front door. There was no YMCA signage outside the building, but that will likely change later this week. The project contractor is scheduled to put YMCA signage up Wednesday or Thursday, said Taylor Bley, director of marketing  and communications for the YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley.

“The new North YMCA will place a strong emphasis on holistic health and recovery, offering innovative wellness amenities designed to improve physical recovery, reduce stress, and support overall well-being,” according to the YMCA news release made available in April when it was first announced the YMCA would be moving to a new home.

Some of the health and wellness services expected to be offered at the new YMCA site include:

    • Red Light Therapy and Infrared Heat (RedZone): Combines infrared heat and red light technology to support muscle recovery, improve circulation, and promote relaxation. This integrated approach helps members enhance recovery, reduce fatigue, and support overall physical performance.
    • HydroMassage: A fully customizable, full-body heated massage experience designed to relieve muscle soreness, reduce tension, and support recovery. Members can remain fully clothed while targeting specific muscle groups, making it an accessible and convenient option for post-workout recovery and ongoing wellness.
    • Polar Wave Cold Therapy Chair: Provides the benefits of a full-body cold plunge in a dry, comfortable environment, helping reduce inflammation, accelerate muscle recovery, and improve overall resilience through short, effective sessions.

“The North YMCA has made a meaningful impact on our community for decades, and we are proud of that history,” said Josh Whitson, CEO of the YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley, in the April 2 release. “At the same time, we know our work continues, and this new location gives us the opportunity to reach more people and further advance the health and wellness of our community.”

In addition to the new North YMCA, a new $18 million, two-building LeClaire YMCA is under construction.

That facility, located on Eagle Ridge Road near Welcome Center Drive, is scheduled to be complete by the end of the year. A groundbreaking ceremony for the project was held last August.

Once complete, the new 45,000-square-foot LeClaire YMCA will boast a basketball court and other features going into the former Grace Marine  building at 905 Eagle Ridge Road; and a new YMCA building will house amenities such as a swimming pool and much more.

Some of the features of the new LeClaire YMCA will include:

    • A full aquatics area with lap lane pool and area for group water exercises.
    • Full court basketball gym.
    • Weight room fully-stocked with new equipment.
    • Walking/running track spanning the entire second floor.
    • Group exercise area.
    • The continuously popular EGYM.
    • The general contractor is Bruce Builders, Eldridge, and the architect is Legat Architects in Moline.
    • The new Y project is a partnership between the YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley and the City of LeClaire. This facility will be open to the almost 53,000 current members of YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley.
