The Birthwork Foundation is one of 10 nonprofits in Iowa and Colorado to share in more than $1.2 million in grants from the Telligen Community Initiative (TCI).
In a news release Tuesday, April 7, TCI said the latest Strengthening Families and Communities grants awarded $599,645 to four nonprofits in Iowa and $687,452 to six Colorado nonprofits.
The 2025 awards included $149,915 for The Birthwork Foundation/Iowa Black Doula Collective (IBDC). The Birthwork Foundation is a doula-to-client organization that provides culturally-conscious care to underserved communities in Iowa and now in Moline and Rock Island, according to its website.
The funding will assist IBDC in growing its doula network to provide accessible, community-based care for Black, Indigenous and People of Color across Iowa. The project will strengthen IBDC’s core operations, outreach, capacity-building, infrastructure, and continuing education to improve maternal health outcomes.
