Greg Bush, president and chief executive officer of the Davenport-based McCarthy-Bush Corporation, has retired after a distinguished career spanning more than four decades, the company announced.

Mr. Bush retired effectively Wednesday, April 1.

“Being part of a family business like McCarthy-Bush is something I’ve never taken for granted,” he said in a news release made available today, April 2. “Each generation has a responsibility to build on what came before it. I’m proud of what we’ve built and the people behind it.”

Following his retirement, Mr. Bush will transition to the role of chairman of the board, where he will continue to support the company’s long-term strategy and leadership.  As part of the leadership transition, Mike Bush will assume the role of CEO, representing the fifth generation of family leadership and continuing the company’s legacy into its next chapter.

“I’ve had the opportunity to watch the next generation of leaders grow and take on more responsibility,” said Greg Bush. “They’re ready for what’s ahead, and I’m confident in the future of this company.”

Greg Bush has served as CEO since 2003, guiding McCarthy-Bush through a period of significant growth and evolution while maintaining its foundation as a family-owned business rooted in long-term relationships, operational excellence, and strong values.

Under his leadership, McCarthy-Bush expanded its portfolio across construction, manufacturing, and mining, including Bush Construction, McCarthy Improvement Company, Oertel Metal Works, Linwood Mining & Minerals, and Clinton Engineering Company.

His career with McCarthy-Bush began in 1985 after serving seven years in the U.S. Air Force as a fighter pilot and instructor. He joined Linwood Mining & Minerals as vice president of development and advanced through leadership roles, ultimately serving as president before being named CEO of McCarthy-Bush.

A graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and Golden Gate University, Greg Bush has demonstrated a consistent commitment to excellence, discipline, and continuous improvement – values that have shaped the culture of McCarthy-Bush, according to the company’s release.

Throughout his career, Greg Bush has contributed extensively to the broader industry, serving as president of the National Lime Association and chairman of the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association, along with numerous board roles across business and community organizations.

McCarthy-Bush Corporation is a fifth-generation family-owned company based in Davenport with a history spanning more than 125 years.
