The Muscatine Municipal Golf Course has announced the hiring of Michael Hainline as its head golf professional.
In a news release, the City of Muscatine said the Professional Golfers Association of America (PGA) member is dedicated to growing the game, expanding programs to all ages and skill levels as well as strengthening community connections. Mr. Hainline began his new duties on Tuesday, Feb. 17.
“Mike brings not only extensive experience but a genuine passion for community golf,” Muscatine Parks and Recreation Director Richard Klimes said. “He is excited to connect with our regular players while also welcoming newcomers who may be picking up a club for the first time.”
Mr. Hainline most recently served as lead PGA assistant at Briar Ridge Country Club, Tinley Park, Illinois. According to his LinkedIn profile, he also served as the director of golf operations for the Freedom Golf Association. That nonprofit company is dedicated to bringing the game of golf to those with special needs.
He is a Quad Cities native. The city said he looked forward to returning to the region and becoming part of the Muscatine community.
Gathering places
“I believe golf courses should be gathering places for the whole community,” Mr. Hainline said in the release. “My goal is to create a welcoming environment where families, juniors, seniors, and beginners all feel comfortable and excited to play.”
His connection to golf began at a young age. For example, he worked in bag rooms and on maintenance crews while in high school. He later competed collegiately, including at Western Illinois University. He followed that with a decades-long career that has included coaching, course management, instruction, and leadership at public and private facilities.
Mr. Hainline will focus on expanding youth programming, clinics, leagues, and special events. They will be designed to make the municipal course a hub for recreation, wellness, and social connection.
The city-owned course is open to the public and offers affordable play, lessons, and community events throughout the season. It is currently closed and the 2026 season opening date will be announced soon.
