Common Chord, the Quad Cities’ community music organization, has named Margot Day as its new development director.

In the newly created role, Ms. Day will lead efforts to develop resources that advance Common Chord’s mission of improving the community through music. She began her new role Wednesday, Feb. 4. Common Chord is located in downtown Davenport.

“We are thrilled to have someone with Margot’s nonprofit arts experience and community connections join our team,” Executive Director Tyson Danner said in a news release.  “As we continue to expand our reach and prepare for our next phase of growth, Margot’s leadership will prove invaluable.”

Ms. Day joins Common Chord after more than a decade at Quad City Arts, where as performing arts director she was in charge of the nationally recognized Visiting Artist Series. Under her leadership, the series provided services to more than a dozen public and private school districts in eastern and western Iowa and tallied 1,455 engagements by 112 performing artists and ensembles. Her work in grant writing and resource development also helped foster the program’s growth and impact.

“I am excited to join the dedicated and talented team at Common Chord,” Ms. Day said in the release. “I was drawn to the organization’s commitment to music education for area students. I look forward to building on this momentum and connecting with community members to share our story and our impacts through music.”

She also led a pilot professional development program supporting Quad City area musicians and theater artists.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Day worked at The Quad-City Times as a newsroom aide and taught 10 years as a high school English and journalism teacher in Wilton, Iowa. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English and French and a Master of Arts in Teaching from The University of Iowa.

Common Chord’s upcoming summer programs, community performances, and donation information can be found at www.commonchordqc.org.
