IMEG expands southeast reach with Buford Goff acquisition

    IMEG, a leading national engineering design firm based in Rock Island, has announced its acquisition of Buford Goff & Associates (BGA), headquartered in Columbia, South Carolina.

    In a news release issued Monday, Jan. 5, IMEG said the firm specializes in mechanical, electrical, security, and communications services.

    Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. 

    “This marks an exciting milestone as we continue to grow strategically in the Southeast,” IMEG President and CEO Paul VanDuyne said in the release. “Establishing a presence in South Carolina allows us to better serve clients through strong local relationships, while BGA’s specialized expertise in security electronics and communications significantly enhances our technical capabilities.”

    Founded in 1969, BGA brings more than five decades of trusted, client-focused engineering experience. The firm serves key markets including health care, education, public safety, energy, and criminal justice. BGA is known for its collaborative approach and commitment to improving quality of life. It combines technical expertise with practical, forward-thinking design.

    ‘Exciting next step’

    BGA President Brian Melson and vice presidents Michael Corbett and Keith Summer will continue in a leadership role within IMEG to ensure continuity for clients and staff. The team will continue operating from its Columbia location under the transitional name Buford Goff & Associates, now IMEG.

    In a separate release Monday, IMEG announced its asset acquisition of the majority of CFR Engineering. The Germantown, Maryland-based engineering firm is known for its extensive work supporting federal agencies and mission-critical facilities.  

    IMEG boasts more than 100 offices and 3,000+ team members. It is ranked one of the top engineering firms in the U.S. That includes No. 4 on BD+C’s top Engineering Firms and No. 48 on ENR’s Top 500 Design Firms.
