Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities has received a $15,000 grant from Bank of America Iowa to help build and rehabilitate homes in the Quad Cities region.
Also, local Bank of America employees will volunteer on Thursday, Nov. 13, with the organization to help build the home being co-sponsored by the bank. That new house is at 1402 18th St., East Moline.
Bank of America employees volunteer year-round with Habitat, dedicating themselves to address the need for safe and affordable housing within their communities, a company news release said.
Founded in 1993, Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities was born after a local mission group returned from Florida, where they were introduced to Habitat’s work while helping to rebuild after Hurricane Andrew. Today, the organization serves Scott and Rock Island counties. It has completed more than 140 homes in Davenport, East Moline, Milan, Moline, Rock Island and Silvis.
Since the local chapter’s founding, Habitat families have repaid more than $1.4 million in local property taxes – demonstrating how the impact of its programs reaches far beyond the families it serves.
The nonprofit group has brought together an army of volunteers to build new homes, renovate old homes, build wheelchair ramps and many other projects.
The Build a Dream fundraiser, hosted by Habitat, recently raised more than $75,000 to support the QC chapter’s work.
