Augustana College has been named one of the nation’s 75 “New Dream Schools” in “Dream School: Finding the College That’s Right for You,” a new book by New York Times bestselling author and higher education journalist Jeffrey Selingo.
The book, released Tuesday, Sept. 9, is a follow-up to Mr. Selingo’s 2020 bestseller, “Who Gets In and Why: A Year Inside College Admissions.”
Augustana is one of only three Illinois colleges or universities on the “Dream School” list and the only private college in Illinois to receive the recognition. Mr. Selingo compiled the list from more than 3,900 U.S. colleges, identifying schools where students succeed due to strong outcomes, affordability, accessible admissions and a sense of belonging.
“To be named a ‘Dream School’ affirms that our commitment to access, belonging and student success is recognized nationally,” Augustana President Andrea Talentino said in a news release announcing the recognition.
Mr. Selingo added, “Augustana’s campus made my list of ‘New Dream Schools’ because of its strong outcomes, accessible admissions and engaging student experiences.”
This recognition follows Forbes magazine on Thursday, Aug. 28, naming Augustana as one of 25 private colleges offering the most generous financial aid, and one of only 20 that provide aid to 100% of students. These honors highlight Augustana’s dual commitment to affordability and student success, qualities central to the college’s Bold & Boundless strategic plan, the college said.
