DES MOINES, Iowa — The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services announced its intent to award contracts to Delta Dental of Iowa and DentaQuest USA Insurance Company Inc. The companies will provide dental care to Iowa Medicaid members through the state’s Dental Wellness Plan and Hawki programs.
The new contracts begin July 1, 2026. Delta Dental of Iowa has served Iowa Medicaid members since 2014, while DentaQuest USA Inc. is a new contractor for Iowa Medicaid, the health department said in a news release.
The plans will offer diagnostic and preventative services, including exams, cleanings, X-rays, and fluoride treatments, as well as fillings, root canals, dentures, crowns, and extractions. More information is available at https://hhs.iowa.gov/dental-wellness-plan.
The Iowa Medicaid Team now will work to onboard the two dental plans, ensuring they have built out their provider networks and have systems in place to begin providing services to members on Day One.
There are no immediate changes for current Medicaid members, and members do not need to take any action at this time. Iowa Medicaid will communicate with members about their choices closer to next year’s launch.
