Western Illinois University’s School of Computer Sciences will offer a fully online Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems, beginning in Spring 2026.

The new program builds on the School of Computer Sciences’ existing expertise and is designed to meet the growing demand for professionals who can bridge business strategy and technology.

The online bachelor’s degree will feature two areas of emphasis: Information Systems and Business Intelligence. Courses will be delivered at different times to allow students the flexibility to learn on their own schedule.

Core topics will include cloud computing, business intelligence, artificial intelligence applications and management, enterprise architecture, and information assurance.

Graduates will be prepared for high-demand careers. That includes systems analyst, data analyst, IT project manager, and information assurance specialist.

The curriculum emphasizes practical, project-based learning. Faculty teaching the courses possess both academic and industry expertise in analytics, AI, and enterprise systems, ensuring the instruction reflects the latest industry trends.

The asynchronous online format is suited for working professionals and transfer students. This new program complements WIU’s existing face-to-face offerings in Macomb. They include two additional emphases for the BS in Information Systems: Computer Information Systems and Cybersecurity.

WIU officials noted the program offers a cost-effective and respected pathway into a growing career field due to the university’s competitive tuition rates and reputation for quality.
