Mr. Sikes leads one of the world’s largest privately held companies. He is widely recognized for his strategic vision and dedication to advancing global food and agriculture, Deere & Co. said in a Friday, Dec. 4 news release.

“We’re delighted to welcome Brian to the Deere board,” Deere Chairman and CEO John C. May said.

“Brian’s decades of leadership at Cargill have given him a deep understanding of the agricultural value chain and the challenges faced by farmers and food producers worldwide,” he added in the release. “His commitment to innovation and sustainability will be instrumental as we continue to transform our business and deliver smarter, more sustainable solutions for our customers.”

With Mr. Sikes’ appointment, the size of Deere’s board has increased to 11 members. Ten members are independent, non-employee directors, the global equipment maker and Fortune 100 company said.

Since joining Cargill in 1991, Mr. Sikes has served in numerous leadership positions. That incluces in the company’s protein, food ingredients, and agricultural supply chain divisions, the announcement said. He took over as president and CEO in 2023 and took charge of Cargill’s operations across more than 70 countries. He was named chair of Cargill’s board of directors in 2024.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural economics from Texas Tech University.

“Throughout his career, Brian has championed innovation, sustainability, and the advancement of farmers and food producers worldwide,” Mr. May said in a LinkedIn post.

“His strategic vision and commitment to responsible growth will help us unlock new solutions and drive sustainable progress for our customers and communities,” he added. “I look forward to collaborating with Brian as we continue to build on the shared legacy between John Deere and Cargill — innovating to nourish a growing world.
